Postcard Text: Edith Cavell. Nurse Edith Cavell was the daughter of the Vicar of Swardeston, subsequently a resident of Norwich. During the Great War she nursed in the War Hospitals at Brussels & effected the escape of many British prisoners, for which she was arrested on August 5th & shot on October 12th 1915. The Cavell Nurses Home was opened in her memory, & a Memorial Statue stands opposite it on Tombland. After the War her body was brought to Norwich & interred under the shadow of the Cathedral Walls. Swardeston Church. Of which her father was vicar. Nurse Cavell's birthplace Swardeston. Nurse Cavell's Statue. Tombland. Nurse Cavell's grave.
