Five Forks Elementary School, Five Forks, Va., 1962-1963

Abstract/Description: Five Forks Elementary School for African Americans on secondary road 658 west of Five Forks, Prince Edward County, Va. Built in 1918, it served grades 1-5, and had a pupil capacity of 60. Whitewashed and in very poor condition at the time the photograph was taken, it consisted of two rooms, three wooden shacks and one privy. No indoor plumbing and no steam or hot water heat.
