Transcription: Pacific P.O. Franklin Co[unty] N.C. Nov 21st 64 Prof. [Joynes]. Richmond Va My Dear Sir I Rec[eive]d yours of 10 Inst in due time. I feel under obligations to you for the interest you manifested in relation to contents of letter I sent you. You will not eventually regret anything you do for me. as you will find. I shall certainly compensate you. I shall be in Richmond soon to matriculate and if I can, attend the lectures for some weeks, I shall bring ample testimony of my standing as a Practitioner of Medicine for 14 years. I am very Respectfully yours R[obert] H. Timberlake P.S. If our Troops should evacuate Richmond, would it not render it necessary that you should have some place to go to with your School. If the necessity should occur, I would suggest the female College of Louisburg of this County, 10 miles from the N. Road. We have an abundance of provisions in our County. Though high, Raliegh might be more suitable. doubtful about a house in Raliegh. Should the above claim you attention, I would gladly do anything in my power, to assist you. Should you come or send before I leave, my house, will, If, desired, be a home. I live 25 miles north of Raliegh 2 miles from R. Road. I would also suggest. If provisions are scarce in Richmond, you might do well to send a man here. Mr. Rob[er]t Cochran of P.O. department of Richmond comes to our County every two or three months after provisions [Margin note:] Civil War He promised to be out soon again, and bring me some glass etc. Should he come before I leave, and you want any provisions I will assist him. Bacon is worth $6 to 7, Meal $20 B[arrel] flour $2.25 per B[arrel], Irish & sweet potatoes $6 to 8 Butter $8 or 10 per lb, Beef $1.50 - 2.00 per lb, Peas $20 Market well Supplied. I learn it only about 24 or 30 hours travel from Richmond to Raliegh. I hope the above suggestions, will not be considered out of order, though [crossout] {as} they were penned without much consideration Pork was selling five days ago in Raliegh at $350 R[obert] H.
