Transcription: Tribute of Respect. At a meeting of the Students of the Medical College of Virginia, held on Monday, February 6th 1865, V[incent] C. Huff was called to the chair, and Geo[rge] S. Barnsley was appointed Secretary. The object Of the meeting having been explained by the Chairman, on motion the following named gentlemen were selected as a Committee to prepare a series of Resolutions for adoption by the meeting: Messrs P. M. L Burbank, A[lexander] G.[C.] Ewell and W[illiam] H. Shephard. After retiring for a short time, the Committee presented the following resolutions, which were unanimously adopted: Resolved, That we have learned with feelings of the deepest sorrow of the decease of Prof[essor] James H. Conway, our worthy and beloved instructor, whose attain- ments and skill in his profession eminently qualified him for the Chair he so ably filled. Resolved, That we deplore the death of our esteemed instructor as an event which, whilst it reminds us of the frail nature of all earthly associations, it also enforces the melancholy truth that neither high attain- ments, nor great usefulness can evade the Destroyer or arrest his march. Resolved, That we recognize in this event the hand of our Heavenly Father, who ordereth all things according to His pleasure Resolved, That we tender to the afflicted and sadly-stricken family of the deceased, and sincere sympathies, with the assurance that we fully share with them in their grief. Resolved, That, a copy of these resolutions be furnished the family of the deceased, and the Faculty of the College, and that they also be published in the daily papers of the city.-- (signed) V[incent] C. Huff, Chair George S. Barnsley, Sec'y [Endorsement:] Proceedings of a meeting of Students on the occaision of the de cease of Professor James H. Conway |
