Transcription: 33rd NC Regiment Lane's Brigade Wilcox's Divis[ion] Sept[ember] 24rd 1864 Dr. L.S. Joynes Sir please accept in the onset, an apology from me for writing you on a business matter of my own-- waving further conventionalities, I will say at once that I wish to attend the next annual course of lectures in the Medical College of Virginia with a view of becomming a candidate for a Diploma at the close of the session. I took a course in the Jefferson Medical College Phil[adelphia], the session of [18]54 and [185]5. I have been engaged in a regular practice since that time, with the exception of the two last years. I have been acting as Hospital Steward in the army. I hope I will not be asking too much at your hands in requesting you to give me the necessary information by return mail, to enable me to get a situation in Richmond so that I can have the immunity to carry my above mentioned design into affect. Very Respectfully your obt Servt S[ly] D. Davis S[yl] D. Davis 33 N.C. Reg[iment] Sept 24 1864 Making inquiry in regard to a transfer to Richmond |
